A gully or gully pot or otherwise know as, can be made of UPVC material or older construction will be Vitrified clay pipe the is pipe made from a blend of clay and shale that has been subjected to high temperature to achieve vitrification, which results in a hard, inert ceramic. The gully itself is constructed with a trap or U Bend, the trap or U Bend is designed to stop smells and rodents from coming out of the drainage system. The trap or U Bend is where most blockages will occur in the drainage system, Grease and soap builds up in the trap over time cause the the gully drain to block up, these blockages are fairly easy to clear if theirs not too much debris in the trap. A mop used as a plunger may clear the blocked drain!
