Drain-relining is a way to repair your drains rather than dig up and replace your pipework. So, could it be the answer to your drainage issues?
Damaged drain pipes rank highly amongst one of the trickiest household maintenance issues to fix. From being difficult to detect to causing insidious damage to property and the environment – nobody wants a damaged pipe. Slow leaks in pipes can cause everything from rising damp to disease and attracting pests.
Is drain relining the answer for you?
Once upon a time, when a pipe deep beneath your property was damaged and leaking, the only way to fix it would be to excavate and replace it. Because pipes are buried many metres underground, and often below buildings and infrastructure, this was often a costly and lengthy process.
Advancements in technology make it possible to reline drains rather than replace them
Domestic drain relining is a way to repair damaged pipes by affixing a new pipe (referred to as a lining) inside an existing pipe. This removes the need to excavate or remove the damaged pipework.
Relining a drain means we can fix open or leaking joints or cracks caused by blockages. Also, the solution
can deal with root intrusion and other common drainage problems.
How is drain relining performed?
The process for drain relining in domestic premises will usually take the following course:
- We will carry out a CCTV drain inspection to get a complete picture of the state of the drainage system. By doing this, we will be able to locate any blockages and visualise any damage to pipes, degradation or leaks.
- We will then clear blockages and debris from your drainage system using various methods, including running high-pressure water jets through the system.
- Next, we reinspect the drains with the CCTV camera.
- At this stage, we will evaluate the best type of lining, measure up and prepare it.
- After this, we install the lining by inversion or GFRP UV pipelining. This means we insert the liners inside the existing pipes using air or water pressure.
- Once the liners have been installed, we cure them. This process encourages them to harden and bond with the existing drainage structure.
- Once cured, we undertake one final CCTV drain inspection to ensure there are no gaps or issues within the pipework.
What are the benefits of drain relining?
The obvious benefit of drain relining is an intact drainage system with no leaks. The benefit of drain relining over the replacement of pipework is that the process can all be carried out from above ground. This means we use your existing drains and there’s no excavation required. The other benefit of drain relining to you is the reduced cost. Because we don’t need to dig, the timeframe and required manpower are far less than they would be if we needed to excavate the current pipes.
Once drain relining is complete, you should benefit from increased water flow. Leaks should be a thing of the past, too. Even better, relined drains maintain the structural integrity of the existing drainage system and the property above it.
Relined drains are durable, too, with a life expectancy of over 50 years. The newly relined drains will protect your property from tree root ingress and have more flexibility than your old pipework, meaning they should become less damaged by future blockages.
